Transfer: Man Utd continue Frenkie de Jong talks despite Casemiro signing
Despite signing Casemiro, Manchester United continues to communicate with Frenkie de Jong’s representatives in the hopes of bringing the player to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.
The Brazilian midfielder was introduced to the crowd before Monday night’s victory over Liverpool after United confirmed the deal for him over the weekend.
After losing their first two Premier League games of the year while giving up six goals to Brighton and Brentford, United made the move for Casemiro last week. Manager Erik ten Hag has since referred to the 30-year-old as “the cement between the stones” in his new-look United lineup.
De Jong continues to be Ten Hag’s top target for the summer transfer window, even though Casemiro had been considered United’s alternative to the signing.
A dispute over deferred wages has prevented De Jong from leaving Barcelona for the duration of the transfer window. Barcelona made it clear that he would need to decide whether to leave the club or sign a deal with less favourable terms to remain.
De Jong will be paid the most for the upcoming season, and they are currently unable to register all of their new additions.
