NSUKKA: Origin, History and Legacies - Coal City Connect

The Nsukka Professionals Association (NPA) has stated that it will be involved in the emergence of those who will govern Enugu State instead of watching from the sideline.

Making its position known, in Lagos, when it hosted a team of candidates of the Labour Party (LP) running for different positions in Enugu, the association, which said it is non-partisan, lamented the experience it had with the outgoing administration in the state, saying it was unsavoury, especially when one of their sons was in charge.

The event was anchored by Sam Otobueze with James Agada as presenter of the association’s road map, as well as President, Nsukka Professionals, Prince Charles Nwodo.

Members of LP were led by the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Chijoke Edoga, senatorial candidate, Enugu North Senatorial zone, Okey Ezeah, House of Representatives candidate, Igbo Eze North Federal Constituency, Dennis Agbo, and House of Representatives candidate, Nsukka/Igbo Eze South Federal Constituency, Chidi Obeta.

Giving his opening remarks during the event, Nwodo stated that the association would ensure that responsible and responsive candidates are elected in the state.

He said: “In the effort to ensure the state is developed, we have decided to get involved in the process that will lead to the emergence of those who would govern our state.”

According to him, this was borne out of the experience the association had with the outgoing administration, which we could not understand in terms of its direction of governance.

“Now, we are asking ourselves, how did Enugu get to this point? How is it that the state, which shares a border with our state in South West, is able to build roads in its council areas, build an international airport, built an international market, and build universities and flyovers within a space of eight years?”

In his speech, the LP governorship candidate in Enugu thanked the association for bringing them together for an interactive session and assured them that they have come to make a difference from the past.
