Nantes coach hails ‘great player’ Moses Simon after heroics

FC Nantes coach Pierre Aristouy has praised Moses Simon following his goal heroics for the French club, calling the Nigerian attacker a ‘great player’.

Simon on Sunday scored a very beautiful goal for Nantes in their 1-0 victory over Clermont Foot to help the club claim their first Ligue 1 win of the 2023/24 campaign.

Florent Mollet passed the ball to Simon who was about 40 yards away from goal and the Nigerian seeing the goalkeeper off his line hit a sweet shot from a distance that dipped into the net.

The effort was just enough to help Nantes seal the win over Clermont at the Stade Gabriel Montpied to take the pressure off Aristouy who thereafter heaped plaudits on Simon.

“I’m happy for Moses, Simon. He is very pleasant to live with, a great professional. He has ego and shows that he is a great player,” the manager told Nantes’ official website.

“He is very comfortable on the left, but I am convinced that he can be very good in the center or on the right. It’s essential to have these attackers.

“He has this explosiveness… against Seidu who has won the most duels in the championship. He is in shape. He reaches the age of emotional maturity. He analyzes very quickly and he masters it.”

Simon by scoring the winner against Clermont also put an end to his 25-match French Ligue 1 goal drought, with the 28-year-old last netting in a 2-2 draw with Ajaccio on November 13, 2022.
