Messi breaks another Ronaldo record with his goal against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League

Lionel Messi ensured that another record fell in front of him as he continues to etch his name in the sands of time.

Messi scored twice as PSG thrashed Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

A rampaging PSG team scored seven goals against pitiful Maccabi Haifa to maintain their lead at the top of Group H, with Benfica behind by a goal difference but on the same points.

PSG’s formidable front three all scored, with Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi each netting a brace, while Neymar and Carlos Soler each contributed a goal, which was interlaced with an own goal from Maccabi defender Goldberg to clinch the rout.

Messi, the tenacious Argentine playmaker, sparked the Parisians’ stunning attacking display. The 35-year-old not only scored a brace but also provided two assists to finish a fantastic night out, highlighting his performance renaissance after a disastrous first season in the French city.

What is Lionel Messi’s latest record?
Lionel Messi has scored more goals from beyond the box than any other player in the UEFA Champions League since his debut in 2004-05, according to Opta Joe (23, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo).

Messi maintained his stellar form this season, scoring once and assisting twice in Paris Saint-Ligue Germain’s 1 victory over Ajaccio. The reigning French champions won 3-0 at the Stade Francois Coty, thanks to an outstanding performance by the Argentine genius.
