Marc Márquez and Mir, a Grand Prix to avoid falling
The Honda drivers have taken a different trajectory for the second half of the season. A change of objectives, with a more conservative vision and without so much greed, which is allowing them to at least suffer fewer falls and finish their races. The results are still not good, although in Barcelona the team managed to advance to Q2 with Marc Márquez, who with this new dynamic has finally managed to score points in the Sunday test, having already accumulated two consecutive weekends.
The next event in Misano allows the team to have a glimmer of hope. The San Marino layout is usually favorable for its two drivers. There, the man from Cervera has been on the podium nine times, seven of them with victory (1 in 125cc, 2 in Moto2 and 4 in MotoGP) and two on the second step (both in MotoGP). Meanwhile, Joan Mir is not far behind either. On that circuit, he has achieved two-second places (1 in Moto3 and another in MotoGP) and two third places (1 in Moto3 and another in MotoGP). All in all, the pilots consider the event as a good opportunity to continue testing new configurations that will allow them to improve their results both in training and in the race in the future. “It’s a track that generally has more grip than Barcelona, so I think that will immediately provide us with some improvements. We have to continue working as a team and try some things to improve the feeling,” says Mir. The main objective is to take as few risks as possible during the weekend, with an eye on the test they have scheduled for Monday. “We are going to try to have a productive weekend and avoid falls to be in good condition for the test,” acknowledges Mir, agreeing with Márquez who already said in Montmeló that it would be a key test to “start building the future. ”
The one from Cervera also highlights the importance of the test since it will be the only opportunity they have left this year to try things outside of a race weekend “It will be the last test of the season before making a big effort for the end of the year, so we have to make the most of it. “
