Burna Boy, Teni, 2Baba, others get national honours
President Muhammadu Buhari has honoured Burna Boy with a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) award. The President also conferred 2Baba and Teni with the member of the reasons order of the Niger (MON) award.
The three music stars were among the 447 Nigerians and friends of the country honoured by the president at the 2022 National Honours Award Investiture on Tuesday. The ceremony took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in the federal capital territory (FCT).
In a now-viral video, Samuel Ogulu, the father of Burna Boy, is seen receiving the award on his behalf from Buhari. The award comes against the backdrop of Burna Boy’s heroics in the global music landscape.
Last year, Buhari hailed the musician after he clinched his first-ever Grammy award. The 31-year-old Afrobeat singer had emerged winner of the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category for ‘Twice As Tall‘, his 2020 album. In a statement, Buhari said the musician has made notable contributions to music and brought glory to the country with his achievements.
